What you need for an easy chocolate macaron recipe

There are many different versions of macarons out there, and each has their own specific method for making them. Some people use baking powder instead of baking soda, some use cornstarch instead of white sugar, and there are even macarons that use oats as the base instead of macarons basic ingredients of powdered sugar, egg and baking cocoa. For this recipe, we recommend using baking cocoa because it has a higher percentage of cocoa butter than baking powder.

How to make an easy chocolate macaron recipe

Line an 8-inch square baking pan with plastic wrap, leaving an overhang on two sides so the plastic doesn’t touch the baking pan. Set the baking pan aside. In a medium heat-resistant pan, bring the chocolate, milk and 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar to a boil, stirring often to make sure the sugar doesn’t scorch. Remove from the heat and pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared baking pan. Using a spatula, spread the chocolate mixture into an even layer. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar and the butter until it looks like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the chocolate layer in the baking pan.

Bake the macaron in the center of the preheated oven at 350F for 25 to 30 minutes, until an inserted skewer comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let the macaron cool in the pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes before removing it from the pan and finishing with a dry towel to remove the excess moisture. Run a sharp knife around the edge of the pan and pick the macaron pieces out of the pan using the towel. You can either put the pieces in an airtight container and store them for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to 3 months. To re-heat the macarons, place them in an ovenproof dish and place it in the oven at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, until warmed throughout.
